Just Watched

For the first time in months The Big One and I made it to the cinema, we went to see The Artist and I really enjoyed it. A lovely film with lots of classic hollywood references which I thoroughly appreciated, great costumes and set design, all in all a great film.

BUT, I am surprised that is is an Oscar Nominee for Best Picture. Is it because it's a novelty done well? Which it is, it's moving despite there being no spoken dialogue. It's a beautiful film but not one I want to see over and over again, the originals from this genre are pretty good if you ask me!

The story is not particularly thought provoking, the performances although great are not the best I've seen this year. That would be the three lead performances in Tyrannosaur for me.

However, it's a good cinema experience, go and enjoy! Then watch Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Mae West and the other originals...

Currently Reading....

This is my first post on my new iPad! Blogging seems to be the only challenging thing about moving from my *whisper* dying laptop onto my brand spanking new iPad. I have to write amidst HTML code so please Blogspot adapt to the iPad soon otherwise I have to look at moving!
Anyway! Enough about me and more about this fabulous book that has had me enthralled!

I have enjoyed this so much, it's full of fascinating stories, Natalie's upbringing and family are almost straight out of Gypsy. I particularly enjoyed the charting of her acting style and methods as they develop. She worked with some incredible actors and directors and seemed to soak up everything she could.
I am looking forward to looking up some of her great movies. I watched Splendor in the Grass recently and it was superb!

The Ultimate Christmas Movie

The Big One and I are heading to Wales to spend Christmas with My Lovely Dad and his wife (blog-name Painter) at their lovely and very remote cottage. We are taking with us some delicious goodies to contribute to the 3 day feast of Christmas BUT we are also taking a classic Christmas movie for us to watch together.

I haven't seen a lot of the obvious choices so the decision was tough...

In the end I chose;

For a bit of glam and glitz! Champagne, Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby, heaven!

"Phil Davis: When what's left of you gets around to what's left to be gotten, what's left to be gotten won't be worth getting, whatever it is you've got left.

Bob Wallace: When I figure out what that means I'll come up with a crushing reply."

Just Watched...

Today I watched The French Line starring Jane Russell and it was great! She was so sexy! Beautiful in a striking, somewhat unconventional way, very leggy and very....curvaceous!

Some of the numbers were down right provocative but after reading about her I discovered that Howard Hughes, who produced the film, was quite obsessed with her...qualities.

It was glamorous, great fun, made me chuckle, all in all a superb 'curl up and craft' movie to watch on a drizzly day in between rehearsal sessions...yes I was called back into rehearsals after all.

P.S. Tomorrow is a run of the play then costume fittings and hair and make up consultations which means...we're nearly previewing!
